I have begun to hand applique the first tree on my Roseville Album block #3. I am using what I call my “bridging technique”. I glue base the shape into position without cutting away all of the fabric from those deep inner plunges between the tip of the tree branch to the trunk.
Hand appliqueing my way down the tree branch to the trunk, snipping the fabric as I sew to provide stabilization and prevent distortion.
Continuing to snip and stitch a little bit at a time.
Tah-dah! The first branch is hand appliqued in place!
and this is the piece that I cut away as I was taking my applique stitches.
I will use this process/technique for each tree branch that I stitch. ; )
Do you have a particular process that you use to help control wonky shapes and prevent distortion while stitching? I’d be glad if you shared your methods!
Kind Regards, Pam
at the Beach…
For much of my life I have never had the option of buying new…furniture, clothes, etc. So, when I go into most stores, or (God forbid!) a Mall, I am overwhelmed and intimidated. However, I am a very versed thrift and second hand shopper. I have grown to love the appeal and feel of vintage. I have turned my bargains into my own individual “style” and it works for me, us, and our home. ; )
We need some furniture for our home at the Beach. Bed rooms especially. We went to a couple new furniture stores and left empty handed. We did find a wonderful co-op antique mall though. We bought two night stands for our bedroom and a WONDERFUL chair to use in our (temporary) studio space. We couldn’t be more pleased!!! Heywood and Wakefield and a Danish modern recliner. Perfect!
How do you furnish your home? What is comfortable to you?
I have decided to go with Beach colors – lime green, orange, aqua, hot pink, red, tempered with grey and black and wood tones. We’ll see how things continue to evolve… Thanks for sharing this journey with us.
Heywood and Wakefield night stands with orange lamps from Target!
Danish modern recliner with ORANGE curtains...?! Outrageous!?
P.S. That Danish modern recliner is GREAT for hand applique! ; )
a vase. This is what I have progressed to throughout the day.
I haven’t done this much stitching in a day in a l-o-n-g while. It felt s-e-w good!!!
I vacuumed, made a batch of chocolate chip cookies, walked Jingle – twice, made pasta and homemade sauce too. Not to mention the dishes. ; )
Now, I’m ready for a glass of wine and some stitching…
May your evening be pleasant also.
a thousand words…
I am thinking sunshine and not snow, or rain either!
P.S. Just the circles remain…LOTS of ’em!
I worked from home for a few hours this evening, but managed to take a few stitches in the morning. No trip to Burkholder’s or Sauder’s. Scott’s back went out and he has VERY limited mobility. Guess what? That means that I have to go to visit my Mom without him tomorrow. I’ll be practicing G.R.A.C.E. Wish me luck. I will NEED it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I’ve been squeezing in a few stitches…here and there. This weekend we head to Momma Barb’s for our annual Holiday Extravaganza!!! : ) This is the very FIRST time I will have the privilege of sharing the magic of Christmas with a little one. I can hardly wait…!!!
to go away for a few days. Have sewing will travel!!! ; )
Friday was the end of an era for me. And Monday? The beginning of a new chapter. Two days into it I’m feeling less intrepid and more encouraged. That’s good, right?!
So, it’s been a new home, a new job and a new shift all in the span of three weeks. None of which was exactly planned or expected… Surprisingly, we’re holding up rather well. Scott has been SO supportive, my friends too, and that has been a REAL help. Thanks, peeps!!! ; )
Today I did some sewing. Oh, it felt SEW good!!! This morning I finished my Bunny Hill Snowbound BOM #9. Yay!!! Today at lunch, I sat outside in the glorious weather we’re having, and took some stitches on my Roseville Album squirrel panel. Pure delight!!!
Please, bear with me as I navigate these new roads and find my way. My stitching has been less frequent, as have my posts. I hope to find balance before too long…
